Thoughts and Prayers for Taha

Ha!
Yes, its very ironic. But they say God works in mysterious ways. And they also say, every cloud has a silver lining.
I know I would NEVER willingly have said yes to getting piping hot oil poured into my eye, so perhaps this is just how it was 'meant' to happen.
Now the question is - how do I replicate this for the other eye?!

Side note-
I'm known to have an iron will when it comes to distillation, and I even amaze myself sometimes (my wife of course thinks I'm crazy)! What I didn't share is that despite the screams of pain, and standing for what seemed like an eternity in the middle of the steaming contents of the pot which had upturned, I actually made myself a make-shift eye patch (Jack Sparrow woulda been proud) and with one functioning eye I re-loaded the pot and resumed that distillation then and there.
Whatever portion I lost, I lost, but the overall yield turned out to be quite high!

SUPER fruity without any soak. Yeah, try to figure that one out. Don't think many (anyone?) have smelled oleoresin fruit.

No one saw eye-to-eye with me on this that I can recall, but how would you classify the sinking-grade Malinau smell (e.g. Borneo 3000)? To me it's pure berries. And needless to say, that was zero soak.

Oh, I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Are you referring to the assumption that fruity notes can only arise from soaking? Yes of course, Borneo 3000 (among so many others!) is proof that's not the case. When it comes to Crassna though, the soak fruit smell is so familiar to many, that I think the intrinsic fruit smell is probably a stranger to most.
(and why wouldn't I be surprised if you've already made an oil just to showcase the intrinsic fruit?)

No, what I meant is: Would you say the high-grade (unsoaked, untampered-with) Malinau Microcarpa smell is fruity in and of itself? I keep hearing people refer to Thais and Cambodis as 'fruity' yet no one seems to think Borneos are, which to me they're nothing but. Also, what I find pretty funny is most people think Borneos are quite heavy, while to me nothing could be lighter (save for perhaps a Sri Lankan or Papuan) or prettier.

Anyhow, great to see you're doing better, basha. Perhaps I should swing by and claim that oil you burnt your face with for my souvenir collection

Hey well, you're not alone in that boat re Borneo's. BUT... as far as I can tell, its mostly just your Borneo oils that manage to capture fruity notes. More often than not, the majority of Borneo oils (from others) emphasize herbs more. But Borneo Kinam, Borneo 3000, Sheikh's (and the list goes on)... plenty of fruit no doubt! Arguably my absolute favorite fruit note in any Borneo ever distilled has to be crabapple in Borneo Kinam v1. Now I do like Borneo Diesel more personally, but that BK apple... good God! Too good!
I'd be lying if I said it wasn't precisely that note, that got me trying agarwood from all over Borneo, trying to find that same note. To this day, I haven't been able to.

I think our perspective and understanding is too limited to comprehend the reasons for many events in our life but it's always exactly the right thing, even when tragic and painful. Yet another paradox between the relative and ultimate perspective... Knowing this our happiness should be unaffected by life's challenges but it's not so easy in practice. I wish you the best for a full recovery and also that your improvement in vision is permanent!
