cleaning the bottle

I tried a bit of Ambergris tincture which worked very well on the last drop of Merauk that I had. it's own smell is very understated and doesn't interfere with the Oud smell. it actually enlivens it a bit.

If you're talking about getting the last remaining bit of oud out of a bottle/vial, I like to use a 3% ambergris tincture...
I put, maybe, .3ml of tincture in the bottle, seal it, and shake it around to try and 'gather' as much oud (or other oil) from the sides and top of the bottle.
The tincture helps dilute the oud, decreasing its viscosity, making it easier to pour out... but since ambergris is an exalter, I like to think that at least some of the diluting is negated by the exalting work of the ambergris.

...or maybe you're, instead, referring to cleaning a bottle well-enough to re-use it for a different oil?

I use plain artisan etoh (alcohol) a little more than a third - one half mil. leave it but shake it good every once in a while I have some small sprayers, it works better than I expected, I might try some 3% ambergris next, good idea. I like this forum has some good info from experienced Oud lovers!

I have only once reached the end of a bottle and that was because I emptied the contents into another! My children kept filling it with water to make Kyara LTD scented water... lasted like that for months.

Dear All,
does anyone have a recommendation where to buy good 3% ambergris tincture? There are many websites I have found but I´m nt sure which one will sell a tincture worth its price.
Also, is there a website I can buy a piece of ambergris (stone) from? I´d like to experiment and make my own tincture.

have a great day all of you,
Thomas S.

Thomas, this is the most authentic website regarding ambergris and its different grades i know.
http://www.ambergris.co.nz/buy.htm
There are different grades of it ranging from black, to silver, gold, white gold, white.
Maybe you can ask Frans to give you 1g of each grade for sampling. 1g 25$

As i can see, you live here in Germany. If you want, i can send you some of the Ambergris Absolute from Douglas, just PM me.

Dear fellow Oud lovers;

Oud Ishaq is a very thaqeel (heavy) oil.
It is more like a paste of Oud oil.

I have recently (and with success) used some perfumers alcohol, which I diluted to about half of its alcoholic content; with purified water (the resinous paste in Ishaq forms only after its maturation -- effectively meaning that some of the natural water content evaporates).

Of course I am aware that some oud addicts of the islamic belief will not use alcohol as it is considered "haram".
But if my experiment is worth anything you may want to try for yourselves:
Only a few drops (about 8 drops of that mixture) of the water-alcohol mixture (applied through a syringe) made Ishaq more viscuous, so that I now can more easily put on a swipe.

This mix may also be used to clean a bottle of the last remnants of an oil.

Maybe someone else has similar experiences with diluting a "thick" (thaqeel) oil?

kind regards,
Thomas S.

I cannot vouch for this company as sellers but they do claim to sell small pieces of raw ambergris for $25 a gram. I can vouch for them as buyers of the grey amber as a New Zealander I know found a ball of the stuff and sold it to them. I remember back in the early 80s i had a girlfriend who had raw ambergris in semi-solid form in a small bottle that she wore regularly. I cannot go into the details of what it smelled like on her and how that smell affected me on a public forum.
