Funk and the Nose of the Beholder

One of the things I have noticed in the past is how demeanor your post are here. Maybe it's not your intention but from the outer looks of it, it looks very aggressive. Your tone of belittling of Artisan/distillers continues. I don't know what you get out of this, maybe some enjoyment??
As always you will most definitely share my post with the other forum (even though I don't care) and make a mockery out of the members here.
You call out people two faced people from this forum but yet you don't look at yourself in the mirror?
Maybe you should just swipe some nice Oudh, drink a glass of cold lemon jaggery water, and relax.

Agreed but the difference in teaching and mocking is through the first channel a student learns. Through the other channel no one gains anything and often times the second channel leads the students to talk negatively about the teacher!

OK. To resurrect this thread the House of Misk samples have arrived. Got the Borneo Bliss, Oud Assam, and Malay Encens. So far I tried the Bliss and Encens, which was a generous gift sample. Thank you very much for that. First off, for the extremely reasonable (low) prices, it is unreasonable to expect oils which outperform oils costing many times more. The packaging was extremely nice and classy. The Borneo Bliss is a nice Borneo oil with fairly classic Borneo profile. Airy, slightly minty, crystalline. Does it bear resemblance to PK? Sadly no, not even close. There is no parameter which is similar. And it shouldn't be. This oil is still obviously young and I suspect it will improve in time. Its 'lightness' right now will probably improve as well. Definitely no off putting notes. It certainly does not smell adulturated. For the price I think is a nice oil for the beginner Oud afficionado it represents a good value for the money.

I also tried the Malay Encens. It is clear this oil has some age to it and is much more coherent and complete than the Borneo. There is an animalic camphorous note which is quite appealing. A well made oil I would definitely recommend if somebody wants to try a Malaysian oil on a strict budget. It is not a slayer of any higher end oils.

So, to sum up, these are nice pure oils which is certainly an accomplishment given how much higher priced DOP'ed crap is out there. These oils just will not get you into the territory of the higher priced offerings from FO, EO, AA and others. So far, I have to say from my n=1 experience, you mostly get what you pay for.

@kesiro good analysis Mr. Mopar from the Scat Pack(stage 3 + individual of course). I haven't had the privilege of trying Borneo Bliss but I've worn Oud Assam and Malay Encens and I agree that they are both excellent value pure oud oils. In fact IMO you get a much better than everyday profile and performance with them for an everyday price and that's an achievement in itself.

Totally agree,I also tried Borneo Bliss and I think its a bargain.I haven't tried PK so cant comment on that but IMO the profile leans toward Bois De Borneo.

PEARL 'vroom. vroom' DOHC VANOS, hahaha! Dig the Scat Pack but going full bore Hellcat baby!! Anyway, I did try the Oud Assam today and I agree. It is a great value for the $. If you want to see what a Hindi profile is like and not break the bank, you cant go wrong. It does the style, no question. Great projection as well. Unfortunately, head to head with Zachyryyia, Younus, Nuh, and Isa, it is not even close to a fair fight. Depth, richness, complexity, dry down magic that these oils have just is not there. But as far as getting a good everyday Hindi oud for the lowest price, you can't go wrong.

I had the chance to smell the vietnamese oil that @peter4ptv spoke about. I'll just sum things up very quickly by stating the following:

In my humble opinion..
Do not
buy this oil in hopes of getting a cheap Kinam Rouge. If you want Kinam Rouge so bad, then get Kinam Rouge. It is not an alternative to Kinam Rouge. You won't find cherries, you won't find tobacco either. You won't find depth or complexity.

What you will find is a heady sour animalic funky note instead.

Just my two cents on the topic, or should I say... two scents? o_O

In my experience, no "cheap knock-off" was ever able to replace the "real thing". Just count your lucky stars that there are still Artisans out there willing to pour their blood, sweat, and tears to produce "bangin'-good" oils.
