How to retrieve oil stuck at the bottom or on the walls of a vial?

Hello all,
Who here has any tricks up their sleeves?? I need to get some remaining gloopy oil that collects either at the bottom or at the very top (near the opening) of sample vials. Yes, I want every last drop, haha :)
Sorry if this has been addressed before - I'm still a newbie here.

Best wishes!

For those last little bits of oil left in sample vials I've tried 190 proof Everclear and wasn't pleased with the results, likely due to it being too dilute. What I do now is put a piece of thin plastic bag over a cotton tipped swab and sweep every bit out and swipe that.

Such dedication. I would have never thought of that. Thank you for sharing.
In the meantime, let's hope the industry will institute V-vials as a default ;)

Hi there, Argan Oil is the magic ticket you are looking for in this case. Just fill it up to 1/4 or 1/2 full, let it hang out for a day or two to absorb some smell molecules, if it's something like mostafa you will have to physically shake the sample to get the two to mix, it might take several days for a solid oil like mostafa before they mix. I have actually refilled the vials halfway twice in the same sample with argan after the sample was almost gone, and was able to get 2-4 extra wears from it. Sometimes I would combine it with something similar in profile if it's 2nd time rinsing it out with argan, since it's faint at that point.

Please note: although Robert likes the idea of mixing argan with his bottles to top them off to avoid oxidation, I don't recommend this route. Even with a normal 3ml bottle I would wait till it's almost gone before mixing a little argan oil to get extra swipes. The reason being is the Argan oil changes the profile of the Oud, it smears the scents out farther apart. For instance, Mostafa will no longer have a huge fecal hit when putting it on after diluting with Argan, it goes right to the citrus notes that would show up a little later on the drydown. This analogy works with almost all other oils, it smears the notes apart and you don't get that rich intense hit of odors you normally would, and you skip the first hour or two of normal scent progression. Argan oil has a slight nutty smell/flavor, like a very mild sesame oil. If you want to try an oil that is less viscous that also never turns rancid like Argan, try Moringa oil from the seeds of the Moringa tree, this oil is colorless and ordorless, but less thick.

I have used argan oil on my face every morning for five years, and it got rid of all my wrinkles, and i use some in my hair and my hair is very thick and shiny. Ensar's Adam even teases me now calling me Guapo. I suggest buying it from bulkapothecary or saveoncitric, and get a gallon it will last you 2-3 years.

I have bought some Ensar oils on ebay that I suspect were cut with Argan Oil ( note: this is not in reference to Oudamberlove who has a great ebay channel with lots of rare goodies if you like), so please be careful out there ok. Cheers.

I believe Robert meant to say 'Argon gas' rather than 'Argan oil' since the context of that thread was about prolonging the lifespan of small oil sample by reducing air oxidation. :)

Personally i use pipette to draw out those last few drops stuck at the bottle.

I leave what little is left in the bottle/vial as a shadow-of-a-reminder of an oil I once knew, however, I've been giving a bunch away lately, you see I have this habit of including samples with every sale on Ebay. I'm doing my part to spread Ouducation here in the west, I just hope if some get ouddicted not to blame me:)

@Oudamberlove - Yes, thank you greatly for the extra samples you sent me. I particularly enjoyed the Imperial Oud Hushiara. Also, not too bad the thought of leaving what's left as a reminder.

Call me crazy guys, but I think I prefer @PEARL 's Q-tip method if I ever feel compelled to extract every drop. I would rather not dilute with other oils or alcohol.

Thanks to all of you for treating me with patience and respect. I am learning a lot of things in this forum :) God bless !

That's the goal. Thank goodness everyone is patient with me too, I'm nearly certain I've driven several people crazy here, especially with my continuous kinam/kyara obsessions!

Actually no, I really meant argan oil.

This was a little while before I got the Ar and I did not want my two precious jewels (no sniggering at the back!) Oxidised one iota.

Bearing in mind the scent smearing effect that Tuff reports I will apply them within the next few days in the hope that not too much alteration has happened.

As it stands, the lighter argan oil is floating atop the Oud so there a reasonable chance that they remain intact.

I dilute the last bit of oil in sample vials with perfumer's alcohol - this stuff is awesome - it's amazing how it preserves the scent of the oil, and it doesn't change the scent profile except for spreading out the notes a little bit, which sometimes I actually prefer a bit..

I've been contemplating a hand crank centrifuge. The built-in swinging holders are for 15 ml tubes, so the bottom needs to be stuffed with, say, kleenex, leaving enough height for the vial (so we don't have to reach in too far, or turn the holder upsidedown in order to retrieve the vial), then seal the top with PF for good measure. The opposite must of course be balanced with another kleenex+vial of similar weight/mass/volume. Note to self: Test with water/cooking oil in sample vials before using vials containing oud.
