Oud Haroon

Tonight I wear Ensar oud - Aroha Kyaku.
What a powerful experience. The strength of this oil give me strength!
A very smoky opening, that smell is similar to one off the best smoky scotch, you have to think Ardberg or a Lagavulin. Here, we are at the top of refined liquid!
The opening made me also thinked about something else, the perfume Jeke from Slumberhouse, for the smokiness, and for the drydown at Norne, from the same house, for the green note and the impression to be in humid forest. That's two of my favorite perfumes, also two strong and raw scent. Don't get me wrong, the are not the very similar, but, from my olfactive memory, that's what come to my mind, in a very positive way! I like when what I wear have that richness who express the power of nature! And now, whit that oil, it's at an other level! I have the impression that my discovery of oud oil, and also attar (think Sultan Pasha), will be a game changer. I am not very rich, still a poor student, still on student loan, so now I look at my standard perfumes bottles, and I think to what I should sell to have the possibility to have more oil.

So I have to thank Ensar here and Nikhil too. The first one for the oil and is art, the second for the video he made; because he piqued my curiosity with his reviews of oil. I discovered is youtube chanel when I was searching for reviews of Sultan Pasha attar, one artist that I discovered on Kafkaesqueblogspot. My attar experience with SP was very positive, that make me want to know more about attar and oil. The videos of Nikhil maked my education by now. Influcenced by his videos, I also bought Siberian Musk and Velvet Kyen from Russian adam of Feel oud and Areej le dore.
I am new in the game, but now I have a little idea of what I can excpect from oil world.
I really want to know more, I am open to suggestions, you know my taste a little bit now.
Sorry, I digressed a little bit; that's the oil who does that ;)

I had to thanks those guys. Russian Adam too! That was a call!

I also want to hear more about Haroon. It is now availible?

Happy for you brother. Oud Haroon is gorgeous caramel Oud. Thick a balance of smoke and sweet. Neo vintage approach. I wish you the best in your journey. Not sure if Haroon is out yet.

Your wish has been granted. Oud Haroon is available through a private link, if your on Ensar's email list.

I saw the email. Now I don't know what to do? Buying Aroha, or buying Haroon, or wait to raise more money for Tigerwood 1995 or Royale?
I am also curious about Oud Zachariyya.
I don't have the chance to put my nose on one of the Tigerwood, Haroon, or Oud Zachariyya, but I had recommendation for those. Samples are not very cheap, if I only buy samples, I'll only be able to buy a bottle within few weeks, or months. If you have new recommendations, I am open.
What is the best oud depending quality/price to buy? I know it's stupid question, because all depend on which type of smell I prefer, but if one of this oud is in a superior class, why don't go with that one. If it's possible, that should make my choice more easy ;) Oh, I know, that can't be so simple :p

One things that I know is that I want a more dark and strong smell, like the type of Aroha, to be a brother of Yusuf.

Well that will be a tough choice and preference. The Aroha Kyaku is a Oud, you can apply at anytime and it will illuminate the crowd around you but after it completes illuminating you.
I haven't had the chance to try Oud Haroon yet but hopefully soon.
I had the chance to smell Oudh Zachariyya when I met the good ole Doc @kesiro. I must say it is a Oud whose depth cannot be attained through the usage of just a couple times. A very beautiful Burmese Oudh.
The Tigerwood95. Ahhhh this is one of my favorite Oudh which I use during meditation and teaching. It brings the best out of me each time. A Oudh which is of the highest caliber, a Oudh you want to befriend, a Oudh which you want to take with you everywhere. To sum it up the Tigerwood is a very near and dear Oudh to me.
I would highly recommended to get the TW95. You won't I mean can't go wrong!

Well you have decided on an extremely good list to choose from. There is no way you can lose with any choice. You will have to determine what your preference is scent-wise. Any of these ouds have excellent q/p ratios. TW95 or TR would be your choice if you want to have "Oud", in the sense that they represent to me the quintessential oud profile. The Aroha LTD is an amazing dark smoky green scent which is definitely on the strong side but if you get accustomed to it, it is deeply datisfying. To me the Haroon is like taking the dark smoky elements of the Aroha mostly away and leaving the other notes and amplifying them. Those 2 are like mirror images of each other in a way.
The OZ, well, thats a beast of a completely different variety. It is a reference example of a properly aged animalic Hindi oud profile. A must for any Hindi Oud fanatic.
So it really is not possible to choose one over another in terms of quality. They are all amazing. You just need to prioritize what profile you want to get first, keeping cost in mind.

Kooolaid79 and Kesiro, thanks, that help me a lot!
I want to know more about the difference for TW95 and TR. I am not sure, but I think I read that TW95 is more smoky or strong, but less complex. Is that correct?
I want complexity and strenght!
I like smoke, but if a strong dark note take the place of smoke, that can do the thing for me too.

In my humble opinion, @hainss , I believe you should take variety over quantity; IE: buying many samples v.s. a single bottle of something.
Absolutely do not miss Zachariyya, Tigerwood Royale, or TW 95.....or any of the ones you are curious about.
All of these oils of Ensar's that you are curious about are top shelf, but find the ones that work for you on a deep level.
That involves comparative study with a clear mind, according to me.
Get the samples and treat them seriously, take notes, spend time with them, be an olfactory astronaut.
It's a real education :). After you've studied many samples, then you can begin amassing full bottles of excellence.
Apologies if I have misspoken or have read your question incorrectly.

Go with TW95, it is the best bang for the buck and is quite complex (too complex for beginners). TW95 has facets of one of the best oils ever, Oud Royale no.1, ooops! I never smelled OR1 but I have smelled many Filaria Marokes to get why others have made the comparison, I kid you not.
Next, ask Mr. Adam Coburn ([email protected]) if he can include a complimentary sample of Aroha Kyaku Ltd. with your order, and ask if he can reserve Oud Haroon for you, specify when you can get it. Oud Haroon is a distillation feat that is worth experiencing the technique applied and not just the oil's satisfying profile. Unfortunately, the technique is intellectual property that's not for sale.
So at this point, after trying the Aroha sample, you will know if you want to have Adam reserve a bottle of that also.
Then save-up for TW Royale, and when you purchase it, ask for a tiny complimentary sample of Oud Zachariyya. From that point you'll know what direction you want to go.
Hope that helps:)

Ok, just did a quick side by side of TW95 and TR. The first thing that came to my mind is how mind-bogglinlgy good these 2 oils are. Just incredible. Very different overall but distinctly similar as well. The TR is more camphorous, 'darker' and more musky and the TW95 a little greener perhaps?? The TR would be more of a sophisticated vs. the TW95 being a bit more raw in nature. The TR is clearly made of higher quality wood to my nose but that does not diminish the quality of the TW95. It is awesome in it's own right. I just don't know how one can choose between these two, other then by cost/budget. These just don't have any peers at their respective price points.

Thanks Simla House,
You read the question correctly. You have completely reason! It's very more wise to sampling those oil before. I know that .3ml of oud oil can give a lot of wear, but in my mind that sound strange to spent close to the price of a bottle for few samples. That can be explaned by the fact that I have tons of samples of perfume, and I don't really care of those after I made my mind on it. I have the habit to give many samples to friends or to people who buy me used bottle. I acquired those samples mostly after I bought a new bottle, many seller give a lot of sample with an order, I think to Twisted lily who send more than 10 samples free, that you can choose, with an order over 130$. So, that's only an explication of why this idea make me feel strange. I know the difference between a perfume and a oud oil. Now, I have to made my mind that's it's a completely different game. I have to change my perception of sampling.

But, that posibility make sense in my mind too; if I have good recommandations and if I choose well, I think I win more if I buy a bottle, and probably have a sample in bonus with it. But the discovery of new types of oud is more slow, like one sample at each buy of a bottle. But bottles cost a lot and I don't have a lot of money, hmm...

I really like your image of olfactory astronaut!

@Oudamberlove, I already have a sample of Aroha Kyaku that I got with my order of Yusuf two weeks ago. I really like it, and that's why I want a more strong and dark oud. Thanks for your tips. I really want to be able to do that scenario you propose, and buy all that bottle ;)

@kesiro, thanks a lot for the comparaison of both Tigerwood. Both look marvelous. I still don't know how the musk note is reveal in a oud oil, that make me curious. By the description you gave, I think TW95 is more close to Aroha, because of the green aspect and the more raw nature, did I am correct?

I am still interested to hear more reviews of Haroon ;)

Comparing and contrasting different species and distillations of oud will help you to build a better olfactory vocabulary, and gain experience; which will further help you enjoy and understand the oud you are eventually going to get a full bottle of.
In short, I can't recommend enough, a small library of samples to help you learn, and I agree wholeheartedly with Doc Kesiro; both Tigerwoods from Ensar are essential. You must, for the good of all that is good for your sanity, experience both of them.
Especially Tigerwood Royale! Absolutely amazing!
That's all I can say for now........back to being lost in my inner elbow, and the inhabiting Oud Zachariyya.......

Oud Haroon is a mighty thick oil. Thicker than the famous Oud Ishaq.
It´s rather oud paste.....it´s so thick, whenever you are in need of superglue (but don´t have any) you can simply use the Harooon as substitute ;-)

Oud Haroon is as sweet as Dom Kwan, and shares the viscosity of DK, but it is more smoky and resinous than the DK. I get some sweet pollen-like notes from it, reminding me of lindenflower (remember Ishaq?)
What I like especially about Oud Haroon is this special note of molten beeswax. Imagine being in a monastery, or simply a place with old wooden benches, where several beeswax candles are burning...that is the smell of Oud Haroon for me. Honey-like notes admixed with resinous wood and just a tad of smoke to round it out. And a big plus: since it is so thiick a tiny dab will keep you perfumed for a long time.

Just adding my voice to an already loud chorus: You categorically cannot go wrong with TW95. I love and cherish this one on its own right, no need to be placed side-by-side with "many shades higher" TR. In fact, some days I very secretly whisper to myself, "Do I like this one more than TR?" ...

Cheers.

Welp, I can see how the above can be misinterpreted. Poor choice of words of my part. In no way am I doubting the veracity of Ensar's words, nor do I doubt that TR is "many shades higher"... What I wrote was meant strictly as a compliment to TW95, that it can stand on its own. That's all :)
