Oud in Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the native traditional medicine of India. For a long time it has been forbidden, particularly during the English colonization, it knows a renewal of activity since Gandhi has bring it up to date. It is still practised in South Asia where it is an alternative in western medicine.

Ayurveda draws its sources from Vedas texts, particularly from the Atharva-Veda. The cure principles and outlines in the Atharva-Veda rest upon sound and speech. Afterward, two medical treaties, Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita came to detail and to materialize the ayurveda. Thus, we find in Sushruta Samhita the description of 1120 diseases, 700 healing plants of which the oud, 64 preparations from mineral substances and 57 with animal substances.

Ayurveda believes in the balance of three “moods or spirits” or doshas, present at different stage in individuals. A pathology is the result of a disturbance of the balance of doshas and to heal, it is thus necessary to restore this balance

Agarwood is used as incense and as oil to cure. Non-infected aquilaria wood (which is thus, not agarwood) is used in the form of powder.

It is used to cure a lot of diseases: sexual disorder (its oil is considered as the most powerful aphrodisiac essential oil) and urinary, skin diseases, eyes and ear problems.

Agarwood and its oil are “hot” when used, and are manipulated in order to restore vigour to the body, heal the heart but also respiratory diseases as asthma and all the diseases resulting from the cold, particularly at the breast and head level.

Finally it is very effective against mental disorders.

Thanks, tcherkassi,
for these wonderful and informative postings.
Maybe other users here have a direct experience with the healing properties of Oud oil?
I, for example, have noticed that oud oil gives me an energy boost. At times, the effect is similar to a strong cup of coffee -- quite energizing.

Nothing dear Thomas.
I only share postings from a blog ( http://www.oudyssee.com/en/ ) that I consider interesting. It addresses the oud from a different angle than others blogs talking about things like religion and médicine.
I can not wait to read the next articles!
I saw last year a Healing property: in a circle of remembrance, after intensive time in the hadra, a friend had trouble breathing. The brother who make the blog was here too (this is were I know him) and he put Under the nose a little of an oud oul very minty. In a short time the friend who had the trouble breathing was able to breathe normally.

To me, oud give me always smile, and it is not nothing in our time :) !

Thank you for this interesting information Tcherkassi. I find that Oud constantly heals me of the money in my wallet. This cure is so strong that is completely gone. Do you or your friend happen to know the Sanskrit script for Oud oil? The Sanskrit word is aguru but I am unsure whether that word means Oud oil or agarwood.

We do!
Although the cure is not long lasting. I find that the money creeps back into the wallet which then needs to be cleansed all over again.
I am in contact with our French Brother and I am now the owner of an amazing French-Sanskrit dictionary thanks to his largesse. I will share the information shortly on another part of this site. Just need to complete my surrounding thoughts.
