Transferring oil into a new bottle

#1
Hi

I would like to know the best way to transfer Oud oil into a new bottle. Do I have to prepare the new bottle by cleaning it with something special? Also where can I get the best quality 12ml bottle for long term storage (It's for my Oud Royale original). I cannot find something decent and the smallest pyrex bottle I could find was 100ml. I don't want to use the 100ml bottle as I fear the extra air might oxidize the oil to some extent :p.

Thanks

Hi, OudPecker. I recommend a standard glass tola bottle for your Oud Royale, with as little air in the bottle as possible. You'd also do well to keep the oil out of light. You can email me for an empty bottle, and I'll send you one.

I was wondering, when vendors bottle up their oils, do they sterilise the bottles beforehand, or is this not necessary?

Never occurred to me until I read your question, J65! :)

Most vendors assume the oil is to be applied topically, and the bottles being new, there would be no need to sterilize them....

@Ensar quite a reasonable answer. Never thought of that before too. What about the v-vials and other types from lab apparatus suppliers? Are they sterile?

Now it depends on what you mean by sterile. :D

Most of the scientific glass apparatus are 'cleaned' as they are usually manufactured in a clean lab environment of certain classification. There are no further treatment of the glassware unless it is certified pre-cleaned by a special process.

calpaclab.com/clear-glass-jar-4oz-green-ptfe-lined-cap-case-24/qp-glc-01634
Normal 4oz jar. $82.45/24

calpaclab.com/ultra-clean-4oz-120ml-clear-straight-sided-jars-58-400-green-ptfe-lined-cap-case-24/qp-glc-07699
Ultra clean 4oz jar. $196.39

You can see how much more expensive it will be if you need ultra clean containers!

If the purpose is for wood storage, i do not think it matter much for the 'degree of cleanliness'. But for oil storage, it really depends on how particular you are. Of course you can always wash and dry the glassware yourself if you want to. Not that i think it is feasible for Ensar or other vendors to do so when they have hundreds of glass vials to deal with!

Thanks all. I was thinking more of when transferring oils myself, whether I should clean the bottles etc. I was wondering whether potential contaminants could perhaps affect the oil but guess they wouldn't.
