AA Royal maluku seram
Beguiling aromatics. Iris absolute is the front and center act and spicy lilac tinged baking spices, an herbaceous thyme compound butter and crystalline sweet cummingiana notes I associate with places like Sulawesi, mindanao and Ambon are what make this oil a stellar example of an aromatic compound that is absolutely complete and more complex than some of the most amazing perfumes.

Earlier today was EO Bhutan red. A remarkable classy oil. Perfect balance of minerals, honeybush tea, gentle leather, gentle barn, hay and black tea. No sour note. No cheese. No sharp notes. Just Clean funk. Best of the bunch from my 6 Bhutan oil haul.

Going back to my early day love: walla.

Eo suri senkoh vs iO Ceylon royale vs eo orsl vs iO Sri pada

Suri senkoh and Ceylon royale are both focused on the green and blue spectrum of the walla note. Cedar plank beach hut next to a mango grove and nutmeg farm. Salty oceanic sweet and yelling summer and high intensity sports. When worn together the differences are rather big. Yet in minds eye these two have been somewhat interchangeable for me.

Orsl is full spectrum grand daddy. An oil that will age for eons. Compete walla profile. Fruit spice earth green blue red yellow black. Is all.

Sri pada is on the red spectrum. Most dominant spice and fruit nose. Lacks the elegance of others and that high pitch but nice base.

2 monster Malinau oils today! And xll

EO white kinam vs Borneo diesel
When I tried white kinam on release it was a rambunctious teenager and showing a touch of oriscent signature but otherwise mostly monsterous malinau. Borneo diesel on the other hand was always more of an oriscent oil first and a malinau second. The gap has narrowed big time since. White kinam totally has the evident oriscent signature. Both lovely oils. Borneo diesel more settled and more heart notes while white kinam has plenty of top notes still but equally strong in mid and base.

Xll
One of the most amazing dry-downs. The opening is not for me. Crude oil and old diesel stain left on the tarmac. 20 minutes later beautiful spices and very dark purple almost black floral notes come out. Drydown is like irian noir the wood. Creme de violette. Dark dark purple accord. Lovely stuff and can’t get enough of it.

Evening swipes of the regal Oud Mostafa VII.
Top: gentle barn, blue cheese, cacao, bitter orange zest, pepper.
Heart: leather, rooibos, tobacco, honeysuckle, menthol, cannabis, musk.
Base: salty caramel, ambergris, frankincense, myrrh.
Overall profile colour is tan.
Great description Anthony! One of my favorites. After nursing along a sample for a while I was fortunate to get one of the last bottles.

Luscious evening swipes of Tigerwood Royale. I am in love with this West Malaysian beauty.
Top: soft barn, lemon-rose, caramel, linseed, saffron, cotton candy, mango, papaya, guava.
Heart: pink and black pepper, leather, eucalyptus, birch tar, mahogany, camphor, musk.
Base: bergamot tea, cola nut, sweet menthol, ambergris, myrrh.
Overall profile colour is saffron yellow.

EO - Khus D'Afrique

My love for Vetiver(Khus) is even older than Oud... from my Indian Ruh Khus to Guerlian Vetiver, Hermes, Fedric Male Vetiver Extraordinaire.....

My this Khus D'Afrique is different. Is it better than the Indian Khus? I personally can't compare the two, one is green (Indian Khus) and the other one (Khus D'Afrique)uses Lime and Orange peel notes to make this a fresh summer fragrance...

All Vetiver fans should surely try this one.

Thanks for sharing these thoughts Oud-Dan. I also am enjoying contrasting 2 excellent EO vetivers Khus de Ceylan & Khus d'Afrique. They are both unique and lovely. They are nice summer scents like the florals that popped in the springtime. (It's already getting quite warm and humid in Florida and we'll have about 4 or 5 more months of this.) Thanks to my evolving oud journey I feel blessed to be able to expand my fragrant horizons into santals, florals and now these incredible Khus grassy vetivers. I read as much descriptive content on these gifts of nature as I can but am still just kind of taking it all in. In new ways these wonderful fragrances have enriched my life, my awareness, my ability to relax and focus and brought so much joy. So nice to have a forum like Gaharu to share mutual experiences!
