Tonight is the one that really started is for me. Oud Yusuf. It has been at least a year since I visited this piece of history. And what an icon it is. Like an old friend who you have not seen for a while but you pick up right where you left off when meeting again.
Woah that was brilliant Doc “pick up right where you left off” thank you for that quote!!

Tigerwood Royale. I have recently discovered what I think is the Kyara note in various ouds. I’ve put down all my fruity Thais and Cambodis because all I want is that pure electric blood-brain barrier-crossing organic ring note. I always loved the smell of railroad tracks because of the creosote in the ties, and friendly organic solvents like terpentine. Now I learn from Taha that the addicting chemicals in oud are sesquiterpenes that do in fact make it into the brain and must do something in the synapses that the brain likes. This is the note in TR that has me sniffing my arm like a hungry puppy looking for a hamburger that was dropped on the floor last week that he knows he’ll find if only he just keeps sniffing harder. Other people have smelled rose and other beauties in TR; my nose is too old for that. But there’s that note, persistent, electric, haunting, that makes my toes tingle.

Dear Larry, when I tried Tigerwood ('95, not the Royale) for the first time I knew it was very special. I described it as having a nootropic-like quality to it, which mirrors your BBB experience somewhat. Upon later swipes it game me a jolt of peaceful clarity every time, like coffee without the jitters.

My SOTD this afternoon & evening is FO Hainan Arabi, I have had about 5 modest swipes so far to maintain the opening aroma.

Your insight is always filled with so much depth and knowledge Sir @RobertOne. Thank you very much for sharing!!
Woah 5 swipes is way too much for maintaining the opening aroma. I don’t think I have ever used 1 complete swipe except maybe only on Eid :D

Dearest Koolio,

You really are too kind to me, that's not false modesty either, I am often in awe of the lyrical and scientific writing by many here, I am just happy to be in such good company, yourself included.

As an aside, I am ashamed, truly ashamed how artless and pixellated my musings on Oud are compared to one 'Kafkaesque'. He or She must surely be a published writer of some type.

Such an absolute command of the senses and the art to perfectly phrase each nuance is admirable. If you are reading this, my sincerest compliments. You have inspired me to do better. I urge anyone here to go read that blog.

Sadly Hainan Arabi is very nice but simply is a mayfly on my skin, very annoying. It does last a lot longer if applied to my clothes, however the complexity is lessened with that technique.

Swiping again at four in the morning due to milk and nappy changes is a private release of unknown origin, a mystery sample.

R.B.O Banderban, Bangladesh.

It is very aromatic, will post a quick review while I am awake.

Agar Aura “Ayu.” (I don’t see this on Taha’s website so I expect this isn’t released yet. Taha kindly sent it as a sample.)
Deep, deep. Powerful. Awakening. Mossy rocks by a crystal pool. A tiny touch of Maroke-ish jungly terroir. Water inside a cave. Lightning strike clear. Rich tangible textured aroma, surprisingly for a pure scent like this; as if there are two notes playing in harmony. Pretty violet shows up later

I wonder where this is from. Its profile is like Nha Trang Ltd. and Tigerwood Royale. I hope Taha makes this available for purchase.

AA Ayu earlier, then Ayu again tonight.
(You need the link Larry)

Professor Taha is truly a mad scientist to juice agarwood into a nearly clear liquid. This oil is in the gamma wavelength of distillation, fractional is just too boring for him:p:p:p

If Gen3 oils were never produced, you are not likely to experience them anywhere else. You would have to resort to EO Sultan oils to experience fine-tuning:)

I’m sorry, I don’t know what link to where. Evidently Ayu is out there in the world.

kinam Attar from AA. There are altars I wear when I want a little break from pure oud and there are those that can go right into the oud rotation. This is one of those attars. Sure, it is not Kinam oil but contains the various facets of scent Kinam possesses.
Happy Monday y’all!

Abu Kersani by Feel-Oud. Along with one of my purchases Adam kindly sent a sample of Abu Kersani. It’s so full of hay, wheat chaff and warm sunshine on cherry trees, that I guess it must a barn-less Hindi. Just a hint of terpentine. The name sounds very stern but I find it’s character to be warm and jovial. Very much in Adam’s house style. I hope he brings this one to market.
