FO Purple Koh Kong with a swipe of Indian Rose Borbaniana/Edward Rose. Easy to wear fruity jammy Oud with added oomph from Rose. This oil shall work well with jasmine sambac oil + neroli. I will try to make a blend for myself lol.

Ruh Motia (Jasmine Sambac) is basically made with the Bela variety and not Mogra variety of South India. So it is softer in smell. Soft and sensual. I prefer Ruh Motia over Jasmine Sambac Absolute. Only problem is the sandal base in Ruh. I only buy my oils from two sources in India www.mlramnarain.com (bulk) and alibrothersperfumers.com (bulk/individual) or you can email directly to [email protected]
Their sandal oil is also phenomenal. Gcms proof mysore sandal which is the most premium oil in the world at the moment. Hope that helps brother. Cheers. You can also get their absolutes their Tuberose is also phenomenal. And their ruh kewda (pandanus) is firmenich's favorite :)

Tigerwood '95 today.
An olfactory bouquet of beauty with a camphorous lift.

I just realized with the amount of time that I stand around with my arm to my face, sniffing my wrist and forearm, I should get a cape and masquerade as the archetypal Dracula.
..."camphorous lift....' poetically described. Thank you. Indeed a gem of an Oud.

Nikhil, thanks for your post, but it’s a bit confusing. You refer to two attar makers but then you talk about “their” sandalwood and Ruh Kewda. Which one in particular?

There are so many attar makers, none of whom clearly state whether their product is natural. I’d also like to support traditional manufacturers in Kennauj, but none of the suppliers I’ve found clearly state where the attar and ruhs are made. So to have your recommendation helps to cut through a giant and confusing mess. (Actually many sellers recite the things I’m looking for, but as we all know, this particular industry is rife with people who, shall we say, exaggerate the purity, nature and quality of their wares. OTOH, to be fair, what industry doesn’t exaggerate?)

What does one do when they are busy; housework, woodwork, running around as well as running and one needs a guilt free Hindi oud fix???

Zak from Agarwood Assam to the rescue. Manek II. An absolutely delightful bright, peppery oil with just enough animalic character to do you right. Thank you Zak for this wonderful oil!!

Mind you I am not at my 100%. Bit of stuffy nose. Like my once before exposure to this oil, I pick out all that is mentioned in this oil minus the musk. At least not oud ahmad kind of musk.

My favourite quality of this is its maturity and gentleness. An oil at ease and confident with humbleness.

Shall try again in a week or so when nose is cleared up.

Sadly, that's the reputation of Kannauj now because of their contracts with bulk buyers. They simply don't have enough for the individual needs. However, I have given two most respected vendors here. M L is a family owned business. They were the guys who gave Cypriol/Nagrmotha oil to the world. Their Shamama, Rose, Khus and Cypriol are superb.

Then sandalwood and other ruhs from Al Brothers.
Kannauj operates like the Chinese Market. Everything depends on need and price. You tell them you need ruhs on pure sandal and not other things. They will know what the customer wants. 98pc are sharks who know nothing about what they're distilling lol. Luckily I have found my 2pc :)

And, really speaking with utmost honesty, the nose is the best judge. You feel a connect with natural oils. It's the best exact opposite of what happens when you spray aroma chemicals. They lack life.

One more thing, rose oils can be from Damascena or borboniana in India. The smell varies.

ASQ Kalakassi 120 yrs today. And this oil has humbled me. It has decimated all the stories, the myths, the legends, the conspiracies surrounding the golden bird in the cage, Oud. I have sniffed almost all regional signatures, all artisanal signatures, copper and stainless signatures, prime notes and auxillary notes etc etc. I have gone through all the milestones like every Oud pilgrim. I deliberately do not use the word lover on this instance. And I have realised one thing if an Oud oil makes you happy, its worth it. And this is one of those oils, I do not know why, time forgot.

I have for reference all batches of Kalakassi and one Kannam. All Kalakassis share a sourly fermented berries top note after that all go in different directions. K80 is unanimously revered as the best. I don't care now what is what at this moment because this oil has cast a spell on me. It is PHENOMENAL. This is my third swipe today and I can confidently say gcms proof or not whatever little actual Kalakassi it contains it is simply magnificent on multiple levels.

The top has barn backed fermented fruits. Pretty unusual. Then the oil turns spicy sweet. Its powerful in the sillage dept for the first couple of hours. And I used a half swipe. I got two compliments from a family member. One even had the smell lingering from his hands which had merely brushed my shirt while greeting. And I kept watching him naughtily as he continuosly kept sniffing his hand. And when he just couldnt control the urge, he came up and asked me what I was wearing with a glitter in his eye.

Then comes the drydown of epic proportions a crossover between the sweet aged ouds and sandalwood. It is pure magic to the nose. Romance in the air. Full bodied soft golden hue which forms an aura of olfactory charisma around me. It feels divine.

At this moment I really don't know who made this oil or which technique was used, which utensils were used. One thing is for sure. It is a classic Agallocha Oil done by traditional protocols. And this has to be the soul of Oud. The one divine oil which graces masjids and mandirs, the holy oils which is used to scent the kiswat e kaaba, the holy scent which is used to smear the hajjar al aswad.

It is the BEST Oud I have sniffed to date. This would go well on a man or a woman, a chola or a tuxedo. It would work in all weathers all occassions. Is this what Oud is supposed to be ? That outwordly sweet whiffs which I simply cannot entrap in a wordcage. Bravo. And I feel a bit tipsy today, you can blame the oil. I am sure this is what Oud is supposed to be like even with an anamolous opening.

Btw, my oil is supplied from ASQ HQ in KSA.

I agree.

But the problem is _ ASAQ puts only 5% of original 80/120/150 years kalakassi in the bottles. Rest are they call 'Kalakas oil'. Mark from 'theworldinscents' has shown me once. Actually the original raw collection of ASAQ are not for general people like us. May be they are for Royal Family/Sheikhs.

Even that was long ago. Recent situation is more worse. I told a friend to buy Malik Abdullah blend which should contain 150 years old kalakassi oud. He bought it by his man from a showroom located in Dubai Mall souq area. He bought 1 tola at $4000 got another tola for free as discount. When it came to me I was ashamed ! What a pity ! If I were there at the time purchase I wouldn't pay even $1000 for that. They have old days goodwill ... doing business upon it. Artisanal ouds or oud perfumes from Ensar/Taha are thousand times better than ASAQ/Ajmal/Junaid or other commercial vendors. Still I have some of ASAQ items but I don't even sniff them. Rest I gave to some people as gift. ASAQ is not my cup of tea. But if you can get old batch versions then those were beautiful. Even though they cannot even dare to beat Artisanal High Ends IMO.

I love what it does on my skin. In the same way as I love my oils from artisans. I have openly bashed houses like ASQ. I second your thoughts on recent advances. But it doesn't matter where this oil is concerned. Even if ASQ sucks, this oil does not. As far as brother Ensar and Taha are concerned I love what they do and hold them in very high esteem. I have no intentions if comparing an artisan to commercial but sometimes you do find something that works for you. And I have done my fair bit of letting the world know about the hidden artisans. I keep it simple :) As for ASQ s premium custom made Attars for the royalty. I make better personal blends for myself from materials they can only dream to acquire. Cheers

Honestly speaking, I also like that old version Kalakassi. That's the only one from ASAQ which I use mostly than others. :)

I think the Kannam I have sucks balls. Ahahaha. The 80 is really cozy though. But 120 has the edge. Their Attars are mehhhh. Overpriced and too simplistic. I am dying to try some Attars by Sharif La Roche. Looks promising. I am sure you guys can tell me better. The agar scents bazaar guy.

Different strokes for different folks. Whatever does it for you, that is the best oud. Don't spend money on small scale artisanal batches if a mainstream classic does the trick.

A fresh swipe of Chugoku Senkoh was doing it for me until the swipe of Kanbojia Senkoh I'd taken 4 hours ago came back with a bitter vengeance....
Hahaha. More reason to go broke. That Assamogu Senkoh is dope Brother. I am glad I picked up a sample. Kanbojia looks like BOOM. Are you making this public anytime soon ?
