Oud Royale 1985 (EO).. When I split the bottle I had of this I wound up with an additional .46g left over in addition to the .5g that I had saved for myself - there was to be .5g left over but some stays in the bottle. Anyway, there were no takers, and so I kept that extra .46g for myself but, forgot I had! I thought I had wound up trading it to someone at some point because I hadn't seen it until a few days ago - happy discovery! So I transferred .25g of it to a .1ml v-vial, and the remainder I dissolved in perfumer's alcohol and put in a 1ml v-vial. In the original bottle, the last .25g or so that was stuck in the bottle, I diluted with 2ml of perfumer's alcohol. I can say one thing, OR1985 is awesome as an EDT/EDP this way (some ouds work better diluted than others)!

Does anyone know if dissolving oud in perfumer's alcohol will "preserve" it? Would it continue to age do you think, or once it gets dissolved in alcohol it just remains stable at that point?

Anyhow, OR1985 is tremendous, the aged quality is so satisfying - rich rich rich in character.. Recall that Ensar sold this oil for $550 per 3g bottle - a wonderful gift to our community that I take this opportunity to remind us of.. Easily this is in my top 10 fav oils of all time, and competes for favorite..

Now, I know that Ensar says the trees were different back then and simply aging some of these newer oils won't get the same result - but, I can't help but hope that 30 years from now when I open the caps from one of these dazzling modern ouds, they too will have transmuted into that epic "agarwood liquor" type thing of OR1985.. I think part of it though is that back when they distilled it in 1985 they did a cruder extraction - at the time the oil had tons of richness but was also probably a bit harsh or unrefined - now though age has taken the rough edges of it leaving this magnificent ball of earthy/sweet/bitter/floral/green/mineral.

Kynam No. 1. This Oud just transports you to another level. And that is what was needed. Just pure medicinal Kinam. Therapy for the soul and spirit.
I must say..... most of what I get from my ouds are their therapeutic value, Feng Shui too. Of course it helps if it has a wonderful scent, or a well-orchestrated set of notes, or a mind altering barn:)

Today....

Layer 1 KZ Cambodia Classic
Layer 2 Creed Royal Oud 2010 batch

Results: Royal Oud Private Reserve:D

The balsamic KZ CC is so decadent:rolleyes:

ImperialOud Celebes:

Campfire in the middle of rainy Papua jungle roasting some cinnamon-flavored marshmallow held by agarwood incense stick in one hand and sniffing a piece of sohan dropped in a cup of coffee in the other hand. The Jungle starts drying letting suave fungal mustiness to dominate in the drydown that is less intense than of the one present in the great IO Mamberamo. One of THE best IO offerings in my opinion to date. If you like AA Royal Papua you will crazy love Celebes.

This will age into a sheer beauty. Cinnamon-flavored oud liqueur …

Indeed brother Kesiro, Oud Zachyryyia has a refined ancient sort of vibe - could see this being worn by royalty in the ottoman Empire or some such thing..

SOTD - Khmer Special K (AA) - outstanding kinamic Cambodian by Taha - no fruit here, this one is all wood, resin, bittersweet vapors..

I've got a fevah, and the only prescription is more Hindi oud.
Oud Zachyryyia to the rescue. Deeply comforting and grounding. Beautifully gamey. For all of its unadulterated barn, it still manages a sophisticated side. What a treasure.

Edit: my son is also Hindi minded and rockin the big Z as well.
Just a few days back I wrote somewhere a good hindi brings so much comfort in ill health. I am sure Zach is doing a superb job. Such a nice comforting oil. Get well soon sir. Additionally I use Hindi to relieve myself of any harsh scents or overapplication of ouds. It acts as a nice resetter.

Today I had the utter joy of wearing Kyara Koutan, one of the most mystically beautiful ouds I have encountered. The green notes in this are scintillating and radiant. You have the sense that the queen of the Kyara forest's soul is residing with you.

Then I went to my box and just smelled the caps of my precious precious Sri Lankans: the Ceylons, Harita, Suriranka Senkoh. What a privilege to smell these tear-inducing oils. One goes straight to contemplation of the divine Beauty. All privilege and praise and joy. Blessings to all!

Spot on brother. The KSK is a formidable oil. How Taha extracted the Kinam notes from a Cambodi, which bears no olfactory resemblance to Cambodi ouds, is beyond me.

Today is Syed's Mahabali. A delectable mix of dark cherries, pipe tobacco, subtle animalic notes and burning wood. I love this stuff.

The scent progression of Khmer Special K is fascinating - it opens with this almost impenetrable blast of camphorous resin, feels almost like menthol in the nose. As time goes on though a extraordinarily rich/saturated floral kinamic nectar emerges and the camphor recedes.. The density of the scent is remarkable - I imagine with years of aging this one will become magnificent..

ImperialOud Tinsukia:

Toffee-soaked dried apricot stuffed with hay, crisped with the slightest amount of virgin olive oil and dripped with candle wax superimposed later in its development on traces of basil-flavored metallic peach and acidic lavender-based suede leather with illusion of a puff of smoke from nowhere.

Probably the best non-barn Hindi oil offering by IO to date indeed. It needs more aging though…

PS: my humble mini reviews are dedicated specifically to the most respected @Rai Munir, the wise father of our small oud family, and to @Nikhil S, the scent intellectual and youthful oud spirit, God bless you both.

And to everyone who is merely pure oud lover…

Kekasihku from AA. The beuaty of this oil is very hard to truly describe. It must have been on a strength training regimen since i got it over a month ago. There is a 'coolness' to it, like when you have a mint or menthol lozenge, but it is not really minty. Along with the coolness, there is sweet burning incense which slowly builds in intensity into the strength of a chiseled Adonis. There is a faint note of the lightest honey you can imagine, balanced with delicate bitterness of reminiscent of some of my favorite Vietnamese oils. An immensely graceful and powerful oud which demands serious study and may be one of the most meditative concoctions I am privileged to posses.
This oil easily falls into the true elite category in my collection.

Getting ready to go and do our Eid festival up north with the family on Friday. Will be heading up for a short weekend and I finally came together myself and very hesitantly packed a small vial of the beautiful Chugoko Senkoh. This is the first time I will be opening the bottle and I couldn't find a more perfect time to apply this beauty on that special day. Can't wait to taste, smell, and listen to the Indian Sinensis Oudh. Oh yes we are going to rock!!
